The west end of Montrose County has abundant water and a suitable climate for growing food, as well as strong agricultural roots yet the region is struggling to develop economically. We believe that supporting agriculture in this area will encourage a diverse, sustainable economy, as well as provide fresher, more nutrient-rich food to low income families in the region.
Our Local Food Initiative supports food producers to strengthen the local agricultural economy and to improve access to local, nutritious food, with a focus on low-income families. The Initiative also supports efforts to improve health through community workshops and programs that encourage healthy eating and cooking.
