Honoring Jim Wells, Ron & Joyce Allred
This past year has intensified our perspectives and reminded us how important it is to appreciate and celebrate what we have. For many of us, the pandemic has highlighted how lucky we are to call Telluride home. As you know, much of what we love about Telluride was the brainchild of Ron Allred and Jim Wells
Long before COVID changed our world, the Telluride Foundation started to think about how the community could bet honor Ron and Jim as the visionaries behind transforming the Telluride ski area from a few lifts into a world class resort. They both were also founding members of the Telluride Foundation.
Rather than a specific program or gala event to honor them, Ron, Joyce & Jim, have suggested that we celebrate their contribution to the community by sharing with the public the evolution of the Telluride ski area. Because a public display such as this does not presently exist, we jumped on the idea.
Today, we are very proud to announce the approval of a tribute to Ron & Jim, which will include permanent benches, a planter, and a display on the Oak Street Gondola Plaza. Construction is slated to begin summer 2021 with an unveiling this fall. Below is an Artists rendering of what is planned.
Telluride Foundation is the lead donor on this project, but we invite the entire community to help out by making a donation of any size to the project. We hope that all who have benefitted from Ron & Jim’s bold, risky, and innovative vision will join us in honoring them and this little slice of paradise they helped create. The total cost of the project is $125,000. Please click HERE if you would like to make a donation.
