TELLURIDE, Colo. – (Nov.8, 2022) Tuesday, November 29th is Giving Tuesday, a global event to inspire people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Giving Tuesday is a great day to learn more about different vehicles for giving, especially ways to give in the most tax-advantageous manner.  This Giving Tuesday, the Telluride Foundation has partnered with Lisa Durant, President and Founder of Lion’s Eye Wealth to present a workshop for nonprofits, donors, and the general public to learn more about ways to attract donations, as well as strategic ways to give. This free workshop will be held via Zoom November 29th from Noon to 1:30.

Durant will discuss tax smart strategies for giving in honor of Giving Tuesday. According to Durant, “Not only is giving tied to our heart strings, giving can be tax optimized in a number of ways.” Durant will discuss eight different tax-smart giving strategies that every nonprofit should understand when reaching out to donors, from donating appreciated non-cash assets, offsetting capital gains, bunching 2-year giving, qualified charitable distributions (QCD) from IRA’s, charitable lead and remainder trusts, and via increasingly popular donor-advised funds (DAF). In 2022, a few minor tax changes to be aware of are the adjusted income amounts per tax bracket and a slight increase in standardized deductions which also impacts charitable deductions. Durant will also offer a number of informational resources for nonprofits and donors to better understand charitable giving plans.

Having spent years in San Francisco at Morgan Stanley in wealth management, Durant moved to the Telluride-Ridgway area and launched her own firm, Lion’s Eye Wealth. Lion’s Eye Wealth serves innovators, entrepreneurs, and adventurers of all types with financial planning and customized investment portfolios. Prior, Durant launched Martha Stewart’s nationwide events program in NYC and led marketing at San Francisco Magazine. For over 15 years, she has advised founders on business, marketing, communications, and social media plans. Durant combines creativity and innovation with financial know how. With roots in startups, she is passionate about serving those clients in her work and outside of work with new ventures and nonprofits. Durant holds a B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder in Economics, Semester at Sea study abroad undergraduate, a Certificate of Management from Harvard Business School, CIMA education (Certified Investment Management Analyst) from the Yale School of Management and holds a FINRA Series 7 and 66.
